About the Movie
“Heaven Adores You” is an intimate, meditative inquiry into the life and music of Elliott Smith, a musician whose rise to prominence in the 1990s and early to 2000s was cut short by his untimely death at the age of 34 in 2003. By threading the music of Elliott Smith through the dense yet often isolating landscapes of the three major cities he lived in: Portland, New York & Los Angeles, “Heaven Adores You” presents a visual journey and an earnest review of the singer’s prolific songwriting and the impact it continues to have on fans, friends and fellow musicians. At the conclusion of the film we have a rich view of an incredible and accomplished talent, a view that places music at the centre of Elliott Smith’s legacy.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Evocative location photography gives a strong sense of the indie rock scenes he inhabited in Portland, Oregon, and New York City, and there are affecting interviews with friends and colleagues who struggle to make sense of it all (as do I).
Fresh: A film that makes a lovely introduction to Smith's music but a lousy account of his life.
Fresh: Rossi's film will purr for Smith devotees, but is exasperatingly incurious about anything but the majesty of the man and his music.
Fresh: However hard this documentary tribute tries to celebrate Smith's achievements, the dark stuff is never too far under the surface.
beautiful and lingering
great movie, the visuals are beautiful and the film really takes the time to let you soak in the music of Elliott, which has been mixed to feel immersive and all encompassing. and the music is plentiful too, many never heard before songs and alternate versions for even the most hardcore and familiar fan to enjoy. this film will linger with you.
I adore you.
This is a beautifully made film and a wonderful look inside the life and more importantly, the music, of the incredible Elliott Smith. This is a must see for any music fan. Watch immediately!
Amazing look into the life of an imaginative, fascinating artist. Masterfully directed by Nickolas Rossi and I cannot wait to see what he does next.
