About the Movie
As their parents head out for a date in the city, the three young Thompson children - Jacob, Christopher and Sally – immediately take to their new babysitter Anna (Sarah Bolger, Into the Badlands, Once Upon a Time), who seems like a dream come true: she’s sweet, fun, and lets them do things that break all of their parents’ rules. But as the night creeps along and Anna’s interactions with them take on a more sinister tone, the kids slowly realize that their caretaker may not be who she claims to be. Soon it’s up to big brother Jacob to protect his siblings from the increasingly nefarious intentions of a very disturbed woman whose weapon is trust, and whose target is innocence. Featuring a tour-de-force performance from Bolger and its three young leads, EMELIE is a multidimensional, nail-biting thriller that asks the question: how can you put an end to horror after you’ve already let it in?

Fresh: Mr. Thelin plays with genre cliches without upending them, and the results are more creepy than scary, with shivers that are primarily generated by the sight of threatened children ...
Fresh: A familiarly premised but stringently executed home-invasion chiller that rarely goes for the straight-up scare when a more insidious one will do.
Fresh: Parents in the market for some deserved date-night distraction couldn't do much worse than "Emelie" - and that's meant as a compliment.
Fresh: Emelie serves up satisfying B-movie scares.
Poor movie, only watch if you’re desperate
Way too many stupid moves, even by kids. Some parts were ok, the babysitter was menacing. Why do writers or directors do so many needlessly dumb things? Don’t have the kid yell out when he knows it will fall on deaf ears, if you know what I mean not to be a spoiler. This is lazy filmmaking.
Could have been good but was horrible. Bad script!
I really was looking forward to this as I like Sarah Bolger. The problem was the script not her performance. She did what she could do with a stupid, very stupid script. Some things like a pet python for a 11 year old are ludacrous! It hard enough to imagine some adults having a pet python (which they do) let alone a 11 year old. And the other kid has a pet hamster! Oh how convernient. And also don't touch Dad's restored 30,000 car with 450 horsepower! How about locking the car up so kids can get to it. Just horrible! Stick to Southbound, The Chaser, Nina Forever or Evils Aliens.
This entire movie could have been avoided by one of these idiot kids calling 911. HORRIBLE movie with a plot that makes zero sense. Don't waste your money.
