Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: This sincerity, coupled with a documentary-style approach, can feel a little dry, but the script's refusal to go to extremes only raises its plausibility.
Fresh: The idea that life evolved independently on Europa is perfectly plausible-and that makes what would be a fun and exciting film in any case all the more worth watching.
Fresh: "Europa Report" is a Grade A version of a B picture, a streamlined science fiction story that smartly tells a familiar tale without breaking the bank.
Rotten: Simply put, the care and thoughtfulness that goes into footage-faking has not been applied to the film's script or structure.
Wonder and awe
This is the most satisfying and surprising science fiction film I have seen in many years. It never becomes a stupid horror film, though it is still tense. It is beautiful and intelligent and made me wonder about life within our solar system. It made me wonder about space travel, and how far man may one day venture. It is also a devastatingly emotional and smart movie. I loved it.
NO SPOILERS HERE, but the plot and eventual twist is pretty amazing and unique. I didn't see it coming. Maybe need to watch it again. Cool movie.
Pretty darn good
Riding on the "found footage" genre this film is awesome for SciFi fans. The technology used in the film isn't to far off to we can all relate. You follow the crew traveling to Europa from Earth and all the difficulties that happen during the mission. The premise and events that happen during the "footage" reminded me of a couple books I read about landing on Europa. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was that I didn't want it to be "found footage". I was hoping for a straight up motion picture. But that aside the special effects were top notch. In fact it looked a lot more realistic than any space film I can think of. Definitely watch this now or in the theatre.
