Rotten: [It's] meant to have a whiff of the philosophical, even if its intellectual ambition seems mostly limited to spelling affectations.
Fresh: Jennifer Jason Leigh is an ideal Cronenberg heroine, projecting a personality that is smart, wary and capable of obsessiveness.
Fresh: It's a pleasure to find the brooding Cronenberg turning out a trifle, even if it's a dark trifle.
Fresh: This darkly sexual sci-fi horror variant by Cronenberg makes The Matrix look like child's play.
I love cronenburg and even the flesh films like Videodrome but this movie was a disappointment. It might have been the scripting but I think my problem was with Jennifer Leigh. I think….I think I don't like her. Something about her voice, her face, her persona. I don't like it. It's very uncomfortable to me.
The movie also seemed very lazily put together. Great concept, just poorly executed.
One of my favorite movies. Low budget, creative, surreal, dream-like absurdity. It's not for everyone, but it is definitely a cult classic in my opinion, and my opinion rules. :)
Can we have SCANNERS please. The greatest movie of all time.
