Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: As a whole, the movie, whose title dimly evokes "They Were Expendable," a 1945 John Ford combat picture starring John Wayne and Robert Montgomery, might more aptly be described as Bad Kurosawa, Bad Peckinpah or Bad Leone. – A.O. Scott, New York Times, Aug 13, 2010

Rotten: It's not the age of the actors that makes The Expendables expendable. It's the stale storytelling. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Aug 13, 2010

Fresh: What you will find is both familiar in its contours and unique in its casting. – Richard Corliss, TIME Magazine, Aug 13, 2010

Rotten: I's a bit like a trip to the gym on a flat tire. – Adam Graham, Detroit News, Aug 13, 2010

not really worth it if you have the theatrical version.

if you already own the theatrical version there really isn't that much difference. some more cheesy lines and thats about it. i'd stick with the theatrical. too bad i spent 20 extra bucks to find that out.

The only way to watch this movie!!!

Came across the directors cut on ppv not realizing it was the directors cut... One of the greatest movies in a long time, great cast and awesome scenes. Music in the final shoot out makes the scene infinitely better. Decided I had to own this movie, not realizing I had seen the directors cut and was very disappointed in the theatrical version... A decent movie on its own but just not the same. BUY THIS VERSION IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!
