About the Movie

Overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease, Joe Cross was at the end of his rope and the end of his hope. With doctors and conventional medicine unable to help, Joe traded in junk food and hit the road with a juicer and generator in tow, vowing only to drink fresh fruit and vegetable juice for 60 days. Across 3,000 miles Joe had one goal in mind: To get off his pills and achieve a balanced lifestyle.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: "Fat, Sick" may be no great shakes as a movie, but as an ad for Mr. Cross's wellness program its now-healthy heart is in the right place. – Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times, Mar 31, 2011

Fresh: For all its aesthetic deficiencies and self-promotional aspects, it at least provides a valuable and important message. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Apr 4, 2011

Fresh: the heart warming clarion call for self-improvement that forms the core of Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead - which turns out to be one of the most inspiring documentaries about healthy living ever made - comes as something of a surprise. – Luke Buckmaster, In Film Australia, Dec 12, 2011

Fresh: A gonzo, if somewhat gimmicky, approach to advocating healthy living; it's like Super Size Me in reverse. – Nick Schager, Time Out, Mar 29, 2011

Inspirational. Makes me want to be a better me.

I'm so glad I watched this doc. Makes me want to be a better me. I've juiced before but couldn't make it past 4 days because of the side effects. This documentary made me realize that I should've stuck with it and those side effects are normal. It's very straight forward with no sugar coating. I love it.

This Movie Changed my Life

I have type 2 Diabetes. I was Diagnosed 3 years ago when I went to my Doctor for Chest Pains. For those 3 Years I worked and tried to keep my Sugar low and my exercise up, but with my Employer and Laziness, this was harder task being a truck driver in the DC Metro Area. With my Health in limbo and fading I gave up and went back to old habits and stopped everything. Medication Included. One night after work, with 2 Pizza hut Pizzas on the way with a Diet Coke, My plans were to Veg out in front of the boob tube and watch a Movie on Itunes, I came across this one Called Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. I'm 42 and I was thinking Planes Trains and Automobiles with Steve Martin and John Candy, you know, you remember watching this when you were a Kid. So I watched the preview and Decided to get it and Watch it. Half way through FSND I went onto Amazon and got a Juicer and it Arrived Saturday November 22 2014 and I went to work Juicing. I felt great!!!!! after I drank the first Juice. and figured I could do this. Well with the Holidays, Thanks Giving, Christmas, and New Years. I slipped, Cheated or fell off the wagon, But I continued to Juice Daily. As For My Doctor, I told him Nothing at the time, I only asked to have my Labs done so I would have a base line to compare this to when I would have them done in a few months to see where I stand at that point. My A1C was a 9.7 in December and my Sugar was Completely out of Control with no hope of ever coming down. Now while I was Juicing I did get back on Metformin 2000mg per day with Juice, Because at the time I dropped food all together. So I juiced and I would eat Carrot Sticks and Celery Stick once or twice each week to keep my G.I. track going. I did this for 60+ Days and Finally it was time to go and get the Second round of Labs done to see If it Worked. February 3, 2015 I went into Kaiser here in Springfield Va. I was the Second one in line to have my Blood Drawn and I was beyond excited to just get the results and go, but testing and Kaiser takes time and I had to wait. Later that day I got the Email that my Results were done and I almost gave myself a Hart attach getting to my PC and logging in. My A1C went from a 9.7 to a 6.5. In less than 2 months and all of my Numbers were good. The very next day my Doctor Called me witch never happens and 2 Nurses called later that day as well asking how I did it so Quick. So I told them the Story you have just read about FSND and they are asking me to come in and talk to others who are Diabetic and sick from other things like, Hi blood pressure, Diabetes and the possibility Juicing may work for them. So, as for today, Saturday Feb, 7, 2015. Being the 77th day of my Reboot. My Sugar is under control I am only taking 500mg of metformin no shots, just Juice. I started this reboot at over 350 pounds, out of shape, and with no hope of anything but a box "Coffin" in my future to being 260 pounds. I Lost over 90 pounds and I feel like a Teenager again. I am going to continue to do this reboot until I get to my goal of 180 Pounds and show others this can be done, there is hope. And Joe Cross, Thanks for Making Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. And Thanks for showing me the way to a better
