About the Movie
When a writing assignment lands journalist Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) and sidekick Dr. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro) in Las Vegas, they decide to make it the ultimate business trip. But before long, business is forgotten and trip has become the key word. Fueled by a suitcase full of mind-bending pharmaceuticals, Duke and Gonzo set off on a fast and furious ride through nonstop neon, surreal surroundings and a crew of the craziest characters ever (including cameo appearances by Cameron Diaz, Christina Ricci, Gary Busey and many others). But no matter where misadventure leads them, Duke and Gonzo discover that sometimes going too far is the only way to go.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: (Gilliam's) vision is too reflexively comic to evoke the shadows of dread in Thompson's writing.
Rotten: Pic serves up a sensory overload without any compensatory reflection on the outlandish and irresponsible behavior on view.
Fresh: It's certainly distinctive, looking at times like Richard Lester put through a postmodernist blender.
Fresh: Bizarre, unpredictable yet strangely alluring.
The book. The movie. Both absolutely AWESOME!!! Depp is so FUNNY in this film!!! It has to be one of my favorite J. Depp films. Gotta love this movie!!! Buy it. Love it. Experience the overdose.
A fantastic trip
This is such a great movie, it never gets old for me! I may own it on DVD and VHS, but I bought it here just to carry around on my iphone. If it weren't one of my favorites, there's no way I'd own 3 copies of it now :)
"If anythings worth doing, it's worth doing right"
This is my all time favorite movie, Depp perfectly captures the gonzo journalist's image. It covers the end of and era in both a meaningful and absolutely insane way. Its one of those movies that you just have to see, whether you buy or just rent. P.S. - Benecio DelToro's physical transformation for this film is jaw-dropping, you probably won't recognize him
