About the Movie

Ferris Bueller. Larger than life. Blessed with a magical sense of serendipity. He's a model for all those who take themselves too seriously. A guy who knows the value of a day off. Ferris Bueller's Day Off chronicles the events in the day of a rather magical young man, Ferris (Matthew Broderick). One spring day, toward the end of his senior year, Ferris gives in to an overwhelming urge to cut school and head for downtown Chicago with his girl (Mia Sara) and his best friend (Alan Ruck), to see the sights, experience a day of freedom and show that with a little ingenuity, a bit of courage and a red Ferrari, life at 17 can be a joy!

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: In this film [Hughes] has created a character who is every teen-ager's fantasy, but in the process he has lost some of the authenticity of his other films. – Nina Darnton, New York Times, Apr 23, 2014

Fresh: Here is a dream as old as adolescence, and it is fun to be reminded of its ageless potency, especially in a movie as good-hearted as this one. – Richard Schickel, TIME Magazine, Aug 8, 2011

Fresh: Chalk up a summer sleeper hit for John Hughes and Paramount. – Hollywood Reporter, Jun 5, 2015

Fresh: "Ferris Bueller" has some cheerfully zany scenes, but lacks the originality and verve of Hughes' previous telltale teen comedies. – Kathleen Carroll, New York Daily News, Jun 10, 2016
