Now considered one of the 20th century's greatest street photographers, Vivian Maier was a mysterious nanny who secretly took over 100,000 photographs that went unseen during her lifetime. Since buying her work by chance at auction, amateur historian John Maloof has crusaded to put this prolific photographer in the history books. Maier's strange and riveting life and art are revealed through never-before-seen photographs, films, and interviews with dozens who thought they knew her.

Fascinating look into the strange and sad life of an extraordinary artist who time nearly forgot. Makes you wonder how many Vivian Maier's are out there unclaimed by their generation, and how many great works go unseen and untouched.

Meant to be
Somethings are meant to be. Thank goodness fate chose John Maloof to find Vivian Maier. Such extraordinary curiosity and sensitivity to what he discovered allowed Vivian Maier to live on through her work. Without John Maloof there would be no Vivian Maier. You could argue she would not be happy about it but I doubt it. It seems there perfect outcome. She lived the life she wanted without the restraints of fame. Yet her work survives. All is not lost thanks to a remarkable young man.
