About the Movie

To some, the ocean is a fearsome place. But to others, it’s a limitless world of fun, freedom and opportunity where life can be lived to the full. A new documentary presented by Patagonia and directed by Keith Malloy, Fishpeople tells the stories of a unique cast of characters who have dedicated their lives to the sea. From surfers and spearfishers to a long-distance swimmer, a former coal miner and a group of at-risk kids, it’s a film about the transformative effects of time spent in the ocean—and how we can leave our limitations behind to find deeper meaning in the saltwater wilderness that lies just beyond the shore.

Swimming and swimming and swimming

Another classic by Malloy. Not surprised in the least. This is what the ocean is about - the beauty of the Mother interwoven between passions and kindness. Stay stoked my friends.

A Hearty Dose of Inspriation

Whoa, this film is rich in variety and inspiration. Lynne is crazy. I had never heard of her. It feels like there's a character in this film for everyone to to relate too... and be inspired by. Nice work Keith!

Great film!

Being a fan of surf films and Patagonia films, I leanred of this film awhile ago and have been waiting for it's release. Initially, I was excited about Keith Malloy, Ray Collins (favorite wave photographer), and Dave Rastavich all beng a part of this movie. Then, I watched the trailer for the movie and was excited learn about all of the amazing stories of some truly remarkable people who have each been deeply touched by the ocean. I love how Keith let the stories of each of these people be the story of the film as each individual adds a great deal to the whole. Whether you are a surfer like me, or some other form of waterman, or simply love the ocean, this movie will inspire you and make you want to forget the troubles of the world and dive into the water so the troubles of life can wash away. It will also, if you aren't passionate already, give you a great desire to protect and defend the beauty that we often take for granted and get to enjoy which is the ocean (among other wild places) and is threatened by modern civilization. Watch this film and be moved by the beauty of the ocean, the remarkable lives of some amazing people, and be inspired to take responsibility for the places we "play in and pray in (John Muir)."
