Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: The expensive new version of Flash Gordon is a lot more gaudy, and just as dumb, as the original series starring Buster Crabbe.
Fresh: Is it fun? Yeah, sort of, it is.
Fresh: A respectable time-waster.
Fresh: There's plenty of colourful fun and an awful lot of men in tights. Don't listen to its pofaced detractors -- for sheer cinema fun, Flash Gordon can't be beaten.
Cult classic for a reason
Let's face it, we have a stellar cast having a rip roaring good time camping it up, and killer soundtrack from Queen, combined with amazing retro sets and costumes straight out of pulp 40's serials. The cheesy effects are a perfect fit in a movie designed to capture the fun and silliness of those old serials. This movie has been a favorite for years, because it's just hard to find scripts with lines like: "Flash! I love you too, but we only have 12 hours to save the Earth!"
This movie was one I would watch when I was younger. Its plot is ok and the actors are a little over the top. Even with the subpar graphics and special effects for some reason I can watch this movie over and over again. I guess thats why it is a "cult" classic.
So terribly bad its good. A lot of the stuff was a little cheesy and not even worthy of being a B movie. Though you can't help but remember it.
