About the Movie

Based on the incredible true story, Meryl Streep delivers a hilarious and touching performance as a New York socialite who dreams of becoming a great opera singer. While the voice she hears in her head is beautiful, to everyone else it is hilariously awful. Her husband and biggest fan, St. Clair Bayfield (Hugh Grant) is determined to protect his beloved Florence from the truth. But when Florence stages a huge concert at Carnegie Hall, he faces his greatest challenge to make sure her performance hits all the right notes.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Ms. Streep is a delight, hilarious when she's singing and convincingly on edge at all times. – Neil Genzlinger, New York Times, Aug 11, 2016

Fresh: A damn fine and funny film. Streep could be looking at her 20th Oscar nomination. It's a whole new direction for Grant. And Helberg is irresistible. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Aug 11, 2016

Fresh: Florence Foster Jenkins is ultimately a tale of vulnerability, and a tin ear is the least of it. – Mark Jenkins, NPR, Aug 11, 2016

Fresh: Streep is right there, solidly invested in the folly of Florence's dreams. When she declares that "music has been, and is, my life," you believe her. – Anthony Lane, New Yorker, Aug 15, 2016
