About the Movie
Curtis Duffy, one of the country's most renowned chefs, is building his dream restaurant despite the nightmarish state of his personal life. The recipient of two coveted Michelin stars, Duffy has a laser focus on his cooking career that cost him his marriage and two young daughters. His ambition is to make his Chicago restaurant, Grace, the best in the country. FOR GRACE follows the building of the restaurant from concrete box to its opening night. It also revisits Duffy's turbulent childhood: how a teacher recognized talent in a troubled teenager; how an unimaginable family tragedy made Duffy seek refuge in the kitchen; and how cooking took from him as much as it gave.
A Must See Doc & A Must Visit Restaurant
Amazing documentary about one of the greatest chefs and his journey to his 3 Michelin Star restaurant in Chicago, Grace.
Beautiful and unexpected film
Saw the filmmaker speak after a showing, and I loved both the film and the story of the making of the film. This was originally going to be a short documentary, and then the filmmakers discovered through getting to know the chef that his story was much more complex, tragic, and inspiring than they ever could have imagined. This film showcases the beauty, talent and maniacal compulsiveness required to reach this level of cooking, but also humanizes the chef and shows him as a character we can all relate to in our daily struggles to choose greatness or life balance (achieving both is somewhat impossible).
BEST FOOD DOCUMENTARY OF THE YEAR
This documentary is a must watch! Whether or not you are a foodie, you'll be inspired by Chef Curtis Duffy's incredible journey to create a 3-star Michelin restaurant. Also, the cinematography is simply stunning.
