Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: An old-school western that is a little too old school for its own good. – Neil Genzlinger, New York Times, Feb 18, 2016

Fresh: Refreshingly and unabashedly sincere in its embrace of Western conventions and archetypes. – Joe Leydon, Variety, Sep 16, 2015

Rotten: Fans of the genre - and the cast - may find it a pleasant enough diversion, but given the recent wave of strong frontier dramas, this film feels especially minor. – Noel Murray, Los Angeles Times, Feb 18, 2016

Beautiful One-of-a Kind Film

Kiefer and Donald Sutherland portray father and son for the first time EVER in this film. But that's not the only reason to see this beautiful film. I am not a fan of Westerns and never have been. The only other western I've ever loved as much as this one has been "Blazing Saddles" by Mel Brooks. This film captures what I believe to be the 'real west' or as I've heard it said, 'the authentic western film.' Stunning photography, moving story, some hilarious moments, great sub-plots, and most outstanding of all, the acting (which looks completely natural and adds to its authenticity) of the Sutherlands, Michael Wincott, Demi Moore, and the remarkable supporting cast. I give this film a 10 out of 10. A MUST SEE.

Awesome movie

You can't go wrong with these stellar actors! Good movie!

It’s an Ok rent. Not the best western I’ve seen. A very predictable and played out story.
