Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Ms. Taymor gets magnificent performances from Ms. Hayek as Frida and Alfred Molina as the oversexed Diego Rivera.
Fresh: The greatest movie about an artist since Vincente Minnelli grafted the psychological turmoil of Vincent Van Gogh onto the screen in Lust for Life.
Fresh: Taymor's triumph is that her film, despite its distance from us in some ways, is pertinent and enthralling.
Rotten: [The screenplay's] flatness ultimately defeats a film that's always a treat to look at.
It's a very good movie.
I watched this movie after studying Frida Kahlo in depth and I was blown away by the incredible craftsmanship of the film, stunning acting, and the beauty of the production. I would recommend this to anyone as a fascinating and gorgeous work of art. It captures the life of Frida incredibly well, while retaining a very fresh take on her story. Check it out, yo.
Great depiction of the actual artist. I've learned so much of her, past the unibrow and mustache. You always judge a book by its cover, but you must seek the person for who they really are. Soon, she wasn't what I had originally thought. Great acting for the time period!!
