At the center is Kable (Gerard Butler), the superstar and cult hero of "Slayers," the savage, ultraviolent first person shooter game. Kable is controlled by Simon, a young gamer with rock star status who continues to defy all odds by guiding Kable to victory each week. Taken from his family, imprisoned and forced to fight against his will, the modern day gladiator must survive long enough to escape the game to free his family, regain his identity and to save mankind from Castle's ruthless technology.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: In the press materials Mr. Butler informs us enthusiastically that the movie "has all the hallmarks of Neveldine's and Taylor's sick, yet genius minds." At least he's half right.
Rotten: As the brutish Kable, Gerard Butler must find out who's pulling his strings, but it's the audience whose chain gets yanked by this headache-inducing techno-violent mishmash.
Rotten: It's a deeply cynical and joyless point of view, completely lacking in the winking visual style that made Crank worth a look.
Rotten: Crass, nonstop action triumphs over narrative and character in this movie-length simulation of a video game.
This movie can be great, based on what you're looking for. It can also be terrible. If you are a mother looking for an action movie for the family, move on. This movie is action packed from start to finish but it is also extremely innapropriate. There's nudity, violence, cursing, and people need to be aware of this before buying this movie.
The actors in this movie were incredible, as was the story line. Logan Lerman is amazing but of course the true star is Butler, who realistically portrays a man who is capable of anything so that he can see his wife and daughter again.
The plot of the movie is hard to find under all the action. From what I gathered, Castle's technology is basically taking over the minds of everyone. There is a game that Death Row inmates are allowed to participate in as pawns of this video game. If they make it through alive after 40 levels, they are freed from jail, which is nearly impossible. Kable is the only one to get close to this because he wants to see his daughter and his wife again.
If you're just looking for action, this is the movie for you. There is more beneath the surface, but it takes a while to find it. I would give it 4 stars except for the shocking crude nature of the film.
Terrible movie nothing like the commercials
I saw this movie in theatres hoping for a movie about a convict who is controlled by some person and that person winning a bunch of games to the convict is free. That is not how this movie was, the longest action scene where the kid is controlling Kable( main character) is probably like 5 minutes long and there are only about three scenes like that, this is nothing like the commercials, it is mainly about a different virtual world where Kables ex-wife works to make a living. Over-all, Terrible movie, do not waste your money on this.
Still a great movie!
This movie was awesome even though it was a knock-off of Death Race. The thing that was awesome with this movie was that it was filled with action from the beginning to end. And the action scenes were hardcore and intense. It was filled with action the whole way through.
