Fresh: [Of] importance is the possibility that the film will bring Gandhi to the attention of a lot of people around the world for the first time, not as a saint but as a self-searching, sometimes fallible human being with a sense of humor as well as of history.
Fresh: In playing Gandhi, an actor must be less concerned with physical verisimilitude than with spiritual presence, and here Kingsley is nothing short of astonishing.
Fresh: Once in a long while a motion picture so eloquently expressive and technically exquisite comes along that one is tempted to hail it as being near perfect.
Fresh: A remarkable experience.
One of the greatest films ever made
I first saw this film when I was 12-years-old. And after watching, I was just amazed. It's an epic film without being epic. It's about a man with such epic proportions; and yet, as the beginning of the film states, he was not the leader of armies. He was a man with great power in thought and wisdom. He was the Mahatma. This is not the traditional biopic because the film distills the essence of Gandhi into the basic themes that drove his life. I highly recommend this film to anyone who not only respects Mahatma Gandhi, but also loves watching a good film.
I must admit, I saw this movie two years ago in tenth grade for my Global class, and thats the only time i've seen it. I was actually dreding it because my friends and I thought it would be just another boring movie, but we were wrong, it is a powerful story about how one man could change the world. It made me aspire to want to do something like he had and change the world, but I would declare this as a must see movie for everyone
A true masterpiece
It is a great movie about a very great man! Very absorbing, inspiring, as well as entertaining. Highly recommended to people of all ages and backgrounds. Ben Kingsley's acting is breathtaking and the movie shines in all departments - no wonder it bagged eight Oscars.
