About the Movie

Andrew Largeman (Zach Braff) returns to his hometown for the funeral of his clinically depressed mother, a journey that reconnects him with some of his past friends. Because the trip coincides with his decision to stop taking his powerful antidepressants, he also begins to reconnect with himself. A chance meeting with Sam (Natalie Portman), a girl also suffering from various maladies, opens up the possibility of rekindling emotional attachments, confronting his psychologist father, and perhaps beginning a new life.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Mr. Braff, Ms. Portman, Mr. Sarsgaard and Mr. Holm never strike a false note as a remarkably coherent acting ensemble, and it is good to see Ron Leibman again in the small role of Doctor Cohen. – Andrew Sarris, New York Observer, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: The best parts of this droll, quietly witty drama have the ring of truth. – Eric Harrison, Houston Chronicle, Jul 21, 2005

Fresh: Achingly alive, beautifully written first feature. – Lisa Kennedy, Denver Post, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Cleverly written, sensitively directed and very well-acted. – Jay Boyar, Orlando Sentinel, Jun 24, 2010

Typical Indie...

This is a high-value independent film, not exactly made by a person with little experience and little money. The story is kind of dull. The acting is pretty good, but it borders on the line of soap-opera show. The writing, for the most part, is not very good. Overall, some may like the premise, but as a whole, I did not find this film enjoyable. It's a mild recommendation I'm giving it. Rent it, don't buy.

Horrible movie...don't buy it unless you want to heckle

I come from the west coast and I find this movie somewhat pointless and dumb. Do people have anything better to say than that dreadful "F" word? Come on!!! And the three kids screaming down a pit--very lame. I laughed so hard watching Natalie Portman do that "dance". That old lady at the beginning should sing at my sister's cat's funeral.
