Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: An impressively fine-tuned first feature from Andrew Niccol.
Fresh: If smart sci-fi is your vial of tea, Gattaca won't disappoint.
Fresh: One of first Hollywood films about the effects of genetic engineering on human conduct, Andrew Niccol's directing debut is an intelligent and timely sci-fi that, despite some illogical plot contrivances, is emotionally engaging almost up to the end.
Rotten: It's far too serious to be taken seriously.
Intelligent, and nearly flawless, it's like looking at a future that seems more inevitable than science fiction. You end up caring for all the main characters and there is tension all the way to the end.
One of the best
If you're into sci-fi movies, this movie will be quite entertaining. What I like most about it is that it was made in the 1990's: they did a good job of predicting the future because one day we might be able to decode the human genotype and choose the very best of our genes for our offspring.
Saw when it originally came out. Saw it again now and was not sure if it would still be good. Still is. Well done.
