About the Movie

Jenn and Matt are best friends from college who are now in their thirties. Single by choice, Jenn spends her days teaching hot yoga and running errands for her boss. Matt suffers from comic-book writer's block and can't get over his ex-boyfriend. They decide to fulfill a youthful promise to have a child together... the old fashioned way. Can they navigate the serious and unexpected snags they hit as they attempt to get their careers and dating lives back on track in preparation for parenthood? 'Gayby' is an irreverent comedy about friendship growing older, sex, loneliness, and the family you choose.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: [Balances] broad comedy and warm-and-fuzzy sentiment. – Joe Leydon, Variety, Jun 20, 2012

Fresh: What lifts Gayby above its sitcom trappings is its emotional generosity and easy warmth, the sense that characters are defined by -- and made funny through -- their aspirations, not their way with a one-liner. – Robert Abele, Los Angeles Times, Nov 8, 2012

Fresh: Gayby doesn't break a lot of new ground in the rom-com or parenthood fields, but its agreeable balance of humor and sentiment makes it worth adopting. – David Rooney, Hollywood Reporter, Jun 20, 2012

Fresh: A hilariously bitchy but sweet comedy that serves as Gotham's answer to Portlandia. – Aaron Hillis, Village Voice, Jun 21, 2012

Finally Great Gay-Themed Comedy

FINALLY, a great gay-themed comedy! Most gay-themed comedies in the past decade were even worse than Katherine Heigl romantic comedies (I'm not counting "Knocked Up").

So freakin' funny and awesome and generous, this movie. Hopefully this will inspire a wave of New New Queer Comedy and we can put the awful "Eating Out" and "Another Gay Movie" series out of their misery.

Great Movie, and I'm straight.

There's nothing like a movie with great dialogue and this one definitely has plenty of it. And sometimes when you rent these independent movies you get back acting; not the case with this one. Everyone carries themselves which in turn carries the movie to the wonderful journey that it is.
I did find it a bit difficult to watch the guys makking out, since I'm a straight male, but if you close your eyes to those scenes, and their aren't many, you will enjoy a fantastic movie which leaves you with nothing but joy.

A note to the actors and all involved in the movie (if any of you read this). Great job, a movie you should definitely be proud of being a part of.

Credited by Tomatoes purely for the socially valuable purposes, this movie has no story, no original plot and really terrible acting. Avoid at all costs.
