About the Movie

Mel Gibson plays Driver, a cunning, irreverent lifetime criminal who finds himself in a high-speed car chase with the US Border Patrol Police. With a bleeding body in his back seat, millions in the trunk, he crashes through the border to escape. He survives, only to be placed inside one of Mexico’s most hard-core prisons, “El Pueblito.” When he enters this new strange and dangerous world, he finds unlikely survival guidance from a 10-year old kid who shows him the ropes. Together they devise a plan to take the law into their own hands and ignite a high-stakes thrill ride that will turn this south of the border “vacation” into a legendary showdown.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Almost invigorating in its disreputability; it's both cheesy and striking, corny and bold, dismissible and yet strangely appealing for its singularity. – Todd McCarthy, Hollywood Reporter, Apr 20, 2012

Fresh: Those who miss the days of Gibson's hardened movie characters will be in for a treat with Get the Gringo, a genuinely gritty, hard-boiled action-noir tale. – Richard Haridy, Quickflix, Nov 25, 2013

Rotten: Full of violence and blood-spattered gunplay, it's a visually grotty film buoyed mainly by Gibson's never-say-die performance. – Jim Schembri, 3AW, Jun 26, 2012

Fresh: Gibson's character gives a ten year old kid (who becomes a major character, without ever becoming a brat) a cigarette, and the kid lights it up and smokes it. Try getting MGM, Universal, Paramount or Disney to release that. – CJ Johnson, ABC Radio (Australia), Jun 4, 2012

Mel Gibson is still the man

Pretty baller movie, with good action and, as always, good acting from Mr. Gibson himself.
The story is also one you don't see too often, so it's refreshing to see a change among the monotonous action movies.

Too Bad It's a Great Movie

Simple put, this is another great Mel Gibson movie. I was so into the movie that I caught myself jumping from my seat a few times. The storyline is pulls you in and you can't wait to see what happens around the next corner. My only regret is that I rented the movie instead of buying it. You are in for a treat and a reminder of why we love Mel's movies.

Well done

Surprisingly good! Dick Johnson is a crafty character.
