About the Movie

Scarlett Johansson stars in the visually stunning Ghost in the Shell, an action-packed adventure set in a future world where people are enhanced with technology. Believing she was rescued from near death, Major (Johansson) becomes the first of her kind: a human mind inside an artificial body designed to fight the war against cyber-crime. Unsure what to believe, Major will stop at nothing to unravel the mystery of her true identity and exact revenge against the corporation she was built to serve.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: 'All shell, no ghost' is a low-hanging-fruit diss. It's also apt. – David Fear, Rolling Stone, Mar 31, 2017

Rotten: Sadly, as the plot proceeds, Sanders begins to duck ... bothersome concepts. He picks a more sentimental path, which leads Major, following the example of Jason Bourne, on a quest to discover who she truly is. – Anthony Lane, New Yorker, Apr 3, 2017

Fresh: This Ghost in the Shell is going to invite confused feelings. It's hugely ambitious and successful in some areas and glaringly lacking and vapid in others. – Hannah Ewens, Vice, Jul 9, 2018

Fresh: Clad in a series of unforgiving, form-fitting futuristic outfits, Scarlett Johansson plays "The Major", the latest in a long line of sexy female cyborgs, in this slick, action-stuffed, high-gloss remake of the cult classic 1995 anime feature. – Jim Schembri, 3AW, Apr 7, 2017

The Audience Isn't Dumb!

This movie could have been great if they spent less money on CGI and more money on actual writers. The entire time I spent watching this, I felt like writers were insulting me by explaining every nuance and giving me no space to think for myself. There were so many instances where I wished they uniquely showed us the world, but instead they opted to just use text (it would have been amazing to see a timelapse of Neo-Tokyo over a year instead of showing us "1 YEAR LATER")

Price was 15 bucks when was added as pre-order first now 20?

Thought provoking and visually stunning.

I just saw Ghost In The Shell in the theater and was greatly impressed not only by the visuals but for the context of what a "person" is. My opinion in the whitewashing controversy is that it is irrelevant. In the anime Major does not have a total "asian" look, and it speaks to the premise of the movie about what IS a person is the soul, the ghost not the shell that holds it.
