Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Giant, for all its complexity, is a strong contender for the year's top-film award. – Bosley Crowther, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: An excellent film which registers strongly on all levels, whether it's in its breathtaking panoramic shots of the dusty Texas plains; the personal, dramatic impact of the story itself, or the resounding message it has to impart. – Variety Staff, Variety, Feb 24, 2011

Fresh: At 202 minutes, it's just too long, yet it has the pull of nostalgia (if you're of a certain age) and sustains its emotional impact as a portrait of a durable marriage. – Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times, Feb 24, 2007

Fresh: A real movie is big, grand, magnificent and regales you with all the power that movies can wield upon a viewer's imagination and spirit. George Stevens' 1956 production, Giant, is a real movie. – Douglas Pratt, Hollywood Reporter, Jun 24, 2010

A movie you shouldn't miss!

When my mom rented this, I actually didn't think I would like it. However, I loved it! I read the book it was based off of by Edna Ferber soon after seeing it and found it to be even better than the movie. I highly recommend both! The movie is kind of long, but it is definitely not boring, despite what others may say. With a stellar cast bringing it all to life, it is worth renting, though I personally wouldn't mind owning it.

James Dean is a GIANT!

Best actor ever. Watch him flirt with Taylor...watch him attack Hudson...that is what makes him the greatest actor ever. He lives in the moment...no other actor can do what he does...his concentration is perfect...his belief in himself is truly amazing...and that is what makes him an original...one of a kind. And for the other reviews...yes he acted in 3 movies...but he also did lots of tv work, lots of background acting...go look for it...he's in much more than the big 3 movies.

ONE OF THE BEST!! SCENES YOU WILL NOT FORGET!!

One of James Dean's last & best films. The whole cast is great, Rock Hudson, Liz Taylor & Dean. One of the earliest and best films about discrimination. There have been many who feel that James Dean's later scenes in the film where not convincing and didn't work, but you judge for yourself. One way or another you see James Dean grow old which in reality never happend. RENT or BUY this movie.
