The heart-stopping story of the first black regiment to fight for the North in the Civil War, Glory stars Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington, Cary Elwes and Morgan Freeman. Broderick and Elwes are the idealistic young Bostonians who lead the regiment; Freeman is the inspirational sergeant who unites the troops; and Denzel Washington, in an Oscar® - winning performance (1989, Best Supporting Actor), is the runaway slave who embodies the indomitable spirit of the 54th Regiment of Massachusetts.

Fresh: This is a good, moving, complicated film.
Fresh: It is the movie's often awesome imagery and a bravely soaring choral score by James Horner that transfigure the reality, granting it the status of necessary myth.
Fresh: A stirring and long overdue tribute to the black soldiers who fought for the Union cause in the Civil War.
Fresh: It's hard not to get carried along.
A must-see document of the Civil War
If you haven't seen this movie yet, do so tonight. This is one of the best war movies ever made, as well as a tremendous document of an important period of American history. "Glory" also is, in my opinion, one of the most snubbed films in Academy Award history. Not only was it denied a Best Picture nod, but even more egregious, James Horner's iconic music score was ignored as well. That music still gives me chills, even separated from the film itself.
I remember seeing this is in HighSchool. They actually showed it to us during class... It was hard not to cry in front of my classmates... This movie is very powerful and ageless... GREAT acting by Mr. Washington. Well, it finally appeared on Itunes and I snatched it up. Downloading now as I type.
When they're talkin GLORY they aint lying to you
This is Cinema Gold. It is one of the greatest films of its time and still is today being one of the most greatest Civil War films ever. Through out there is blood and gore but thats pretty much what takes the cake - knowing that these fellow enlisted Union men fought and died for their freedom. When I first watched this, I was amazed at what was accomplished and watched it over and over. Denzel Washington, Matthew Broderick, and Carey Elwes were all great actors in this film. I HIGHLY recommend this film to anyone who is interested in the Civil War. If your not so interested you will still be blown away!
