Goodbye Charlie begins with a humorous opening sequence, in which Charles Sorel is an inveterate philanderer practicing his wily crafts on women aboard an ocean liner. He is found out by a jealous husband and shot dead, falling overboard into the sea. Through a celestial fluke, Charles' soul enters the well-rounded body of a woman who renames herself Charlie. In this form, Charlie seeks to settle old scores with her murderer as well as several other enemies. As if these complications aren't enough, Charlie's best friend, George Tracy, falls in love with Charlie, knowing full well that she isn't really who she claims to be.
My biggest complaint is that the film was shot in Cinemascope but when you watch it, it has obviously been reformatted. Very distracting and disappointing...
Goodbye Charlie - Aspect Ratio
This film was shot in the 2.35 : 1 aspect ratio. The film you buy here is ~ 1.33 : 1
It is truly distracting and makes viewing the film not nearly as enjoyable as it should be. I like the film very much… but definitely not like this.
Widescreen Yes…. Fullscreen… no no no
I hope Apple fixes the problem. I saw the film decades ago. It is a good one.
This is one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies, I was beside myself when after years of searching unsuccessfully for this gem to find it only by chance on iTunes. Unfortunately, the film is only available in full screen would very much like to see it in it's original format of widescreen and HD would be an added plus.
Hopefully, in the near future iTunes will convert this much neglected movie and the other timeless looked over movies of my childhood to the splendor they're worthy of.
For those of you who didn't know this film originally was a vehicle for Marilyn Monroe but due to her untimely demise it was rewritten for Debbie Reynolds... who in my view is superb in this film... a wise choice on the part of the studio.
