About the Movie

Not content with his job as a bouncer, Doug Glatt (Seann William Scott) dreams of a more rewarding job and gaining his parents’ respect. When a chance encounter with an on-ice thug leads to a fistfight that Doug easily wins, the onlooking coach sees Doug’s potential, in spite of his lack of any hockey playing ability. Joining the team and with the encouragement of his best friend (Jay Baruchel), Doug quickly becomes a rising star. Soon he’ll have the opportunity to face off against the infamous league thug, Ross Rhea (Liev Schreiber), perhaps finally land a girlfriend, and stick to a job he enjoys. Now all he needs is to learn how to skate.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Behind the film's brass knuckles are tender fingers. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Mar 29, 2012

Fresh: When Seann William Scott uses his fists, he's a star. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Mar 28, 2012

Rotten: Scott isn't bad: He sells the comedy of his character's ingrained politeness as much as the aggression. But "Goon" feels like a movie starring a gimmick, not a person. – Robert Abele, Los Angeles Times, Mar 29, 2012

Fresh: It's made with affection both for the ritual of hockey fights and the strain of sports movies that care more about wisecracks and pranks than winning the big game. – Scott Tobias, NPR, Mar 29, 2012

Suprisingly Awesome

Wasn't sure if I was going to like this movie, but I decided to give it a chance based on the trailer and the reviews.... WOW! This movie has amazing fight seens, Seann William Scott is great at playing a "Stupid" Hockey player who kicks major A**! Liev Schreiber is a wicked good bad guy/protagonist. Jay Baruchel is of course a dirty mouth sarcastic BF to Seann's character. Also a really good actor in the movie was the guy who played Xavier LaFlame. I would definitly recommend this movie to anyone who likes hockey movies or comedies with a little drama thrown into it. Awesome! I am not a huge hokey fan but this is definitly one of my favorite sports movie. I also loved the entire Highlands hockey team! They are a bunch of crude yet funny guys.

Great movie

A solid dramedy. Highly refommended

Slap Shot with Heart

Most will try to compare this movie to Slap Shot and I have to say it's not, it holds it own on a different level. There is more emotion and character substance from Seann William Scott than I have seen him portray in any movie yet, which is why Goon is such a great movie. Sure it has a bunch of the usual jokes that made me laugh and the Hanson Brother's fighting style, actually it makes the Hanson's look like thumb wrestling idiots and it does it with true emotion. Well worth the price of renting although I bet it would be great to watch with a big audience. All in all, Goon is a really good movie.
