Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: It's predictable in many places and acerbic in others, sentimental when you expect it and poignant when you don't. But it stars Lily Tomlin, and that's all you really need to know. – Ty Burr, Boston Globe, Sep 3, 2015

Fresh: With not a wasted frame in its taut 80 minutes, this is deserving of your attention as one of the year's best movies even if it's being released in the middle of August. – Lou Lumenick, New York Post, Dec 15, 2015

Fresh: There are some terrifically strong scenes and terrific actors contributing to them. – Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer, Sep 3, 2015

Fresh: Lily Tomlin delivers an Oscar-worthy performance in "Grandma" - funny, rattled, cranky, worried, aggressive, vulnerable and loving. – Tom Long, Detroit News, Sep 11, 2015

A funny and melancholic road trip movie to pay for an abortion?

Slippery slope, meet the bottom of the barrel

Horrible movie, based on a ghastly narrative, written about mindless premises. This is probably the worst movie I have ever seen. An old hag and her granddaughter merrily begging for money for an abortion, and condemning their family and friends into contributing. Don’t take my word for it. Watch it (if you can see it for free, then you will feel less stupid). Vapid and shallow from beginning to end.

Can’t watch, so appalling is the premise.

A feel-good, coming-of-age movie in which the quarry is an abortion!?!?!? No, thank you.
