Fresh: The script hits a few bumps, but Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore are magnificent as the bizarro Beales.
Fresh: You will really appreciate Drew Barrymore's performance more if you have seen the documentary... She really nails it.
Fresh: [Drew Barrymore] is fantastic in this film.
Fresh: From that David and Goliath setup, filmed in a straightforward style on a shoestring budget, emerge fascinating character studies that underscore both the best and worst of human nature.
I'm not a softie or a "chick-flick" kind of guy, but when my wife convinced me to sit down with her and watch Grey Gardens on HBO, I liked it so much I've watched it with her three times. It's the best made-for-HBO movie I've ever seen - mostly because of the amazing performances of Barrymore and Lange. I predict Emmy wins for both. Drew Barrymore will knock your socks off! Grey Gardens is a moving film - I seriously had a lump in my throat during several scenes. Make sure you watch the entire movie and stay with it through the closing credits for the final gut punch. Unforgettable!
Lovely movie about two lovely women!
I was hesitant to buy or even watch this film. The documentary is one of my very favorites and I saw Grey Gardens on Broadway. Both are absolutley fantastic and it turns out, so is this film!
Both actresses are at their top form with their performances and the entire cast is wonderful. If you love the documentary or if you saw the musical on Broadway and adored it, you will feel the same about the film.
Just like Big Edie and Little Edie, this film is a gem and a delight to watch!
Watch the original first! Jessica Lange is INCREDIBLE! She totally nails it! I love Drew Barrimore, but she doesn't capture the craziness of little Eddie.
