About the Movie

An exhilarating mix of dark comedy, white-knuckle action and dramatic intrigue, Gringo joyrides into Mexico, where mild-mannered businessman Harold Soyinka finds himself at the mercy of his back-stabbing business colleagues back home, local drug lords and a morally conflicted black-ops mercenary. Crossing the line from law-abiding citizen to wanted criminal, Harold battles to survive his increasingly dangerous situation in ways that raise the question: Is he out of his depth — or two steps ahead?

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: It can't decide whether it wants to be magnificently toxic or merely mediocre. – David Fear, Rolling Stone, Mar 9, 2018

Rotten: A passable in-flight movie that limps home across the border with nothing much to declare. – Chris Klimek, NPR, Mar 8, 2018

Fresh: The stage is set for a good, nasty, slam-bang farce, and "Gringo" makes it about two-thirds of the way there. – Ty Burr, Boston Globe, Mar 9, 2018

Rotten: I left the theater vaguely annoyed - as if the filmmakers had thrown away some promising ideas and elements in weaving together a thoroughly generic chase movie and pretending it's something special by employing ineffective stylistic choices. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Mar 9, 2018

I’m going to have to go into therapy to cope with the fact that I actually spent money to watch this rotting pile of garbage movie. How did I get sucked in? Did I lose my mind? Did someone drug me?
