About the Movie
Combining poetry, traditional film narrative and a neo-noir aesthetic, “Guys Reading Poems” follows an avant garde painter (Patricia Velasquez, “The Mummy”) whose sanity dissipates when she’s abandoned by her handsome lothario husband (Alexander Dreymon, “The Last Kingdom”) for his stunningly beautiful mistress (Lydia Hearst, “South of Hell”). In a feature debut performance, eight-year old Luke Judy plays the resourceful child who creatively uses poetry to survive when his disturbed mother locks him in a puppet box, then transforms the child’s makeshift prison into an art installation.
Bold unique storytelling
I saw this film at the DC Film Festival, and was really surprised by how it camptured me. I loved how the story reveals itself over the corse of the film. It's unlike any other film I've seen in a good way, and I left the theater with a new enriching experience.
This film is truly unique and visually stunning! I highly recommend to any poetry lovers.
One of a kind
A bold, beautiful film unlike any I’ve ever seen. I had to watch it twice before I really felt like I understood it, but the cinematography was incredible.
