Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: He's Just Not That Into You is like reliving your 20s, without any of the fun.
Fresh: He's Just Not That Into You succeeds more with clever one-liners than in its uneven scenarios. But it's light and entertaining, and its heart -- visible amid the cynicism -- is in the right place.
Rotten: He's Just Not That Into You feels like a sitcom that resolves each mini-dilemma before going to commercial.
Rotten: The story about five women navigating male treachery is so busy getting all its talking points in that it leaves no room for recognizable life.
I really loved this movie although reading through the reviews I see some really didnt. I think ou are more likely to like the movie if you ever obsessed over finding the perfect man, or worried about whether your spouse is running around on you, or if you enjoy romantic movies that arent just boy meets girl...they fall in love and are a little more real to how odd two people finding each other can be. I do think it has some parts that are very funny, some will find it funnier then others if you ever acted the way some of the women do in the movie in your youth ect That being said I would suggest renting it because I think this movie either speaks to you in some way or it just doesnt and if it doesn't you will be bored by it. If it does then you will probably love it and end up buying it. I wont say that it reveals the mystery behind relationships per say or that it is totally life altering...most of it is common sense but sometimes when it comes to love, women defy that logic and so it is something that makes you think about your own relationships and your own behavior sometimes.
Would have worked better as a slasher thriller.
I hated these characters so much, I started wishing that one of them would turn into a killer and take out the rest. My wife and I turned the thing off 20 minutes before the end because we felt like doing the dishes. Wait for this to show up on cable, then skip it.
better - but more serious - than expected
The critics were not kind to this movie, although it is really not bad at all. I agree with other reviewers that there is a lot to relate to in it. Between the many, many characters, the movie tries to show a lot of sides of dating/marriage - and does a pretty good job. It could've been a mess and it's not. The acting is decent (although after "Match Point" I'm done seeing Scarlett Johansson as the bad girl/wannabe star). Gennifer Goodwin is perfect for her part. Aniston gives a nice, real performace (even if it's hard to believe she's "always the bridesmaid" in her family of average-looking sisters). While technically the film is a comedy, the characters feel a lot of pain (the guys, too), and their relationship pitfalls are rarely played for laughs. It's no "Scenes From a Marriage," but it's not "Knocked Up" either. Perhaps the casting of Johansson is no coincidence, as this movie does seem to strive for an Allen-esque blend of comedy with real issues, as in "Annie Hall" or "Manhattan." It falls way short of those, but in that quest, it probably turned out to be a better movie than if it was just going for laughs. And I'm really glad they didn't go around saying "He's just not that into you" all the time. (I don't think they say it at all, actually.)
