About the Movie

Academy Award® winner Peter Jackson continues his Middle-Earth saga that follows the adventures of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) who's swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. In the company of thirteen dwarves and the wizard Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen), Bilbo enters the Lonely Mountain in possession of Gollum's "precious" ring and his keen blade, Sting. With an all-star cast, including many acclaimed actors from The Lord of the Rings (such as Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis and more), and the effects wizardry of Jackson's award-winning Weta Workshop, Tolkien's epic story comes to life as never before imagined. The Extended Edition film is 25 minutes longer with new and extended scenes, not seen in the theatrical release.

Film Making At Its Finest - A Masterpiece!

The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug is a beautiful move and the extended version is just more of the wonderful adaption that is The Hobbit. As I did with the first film, I recommend that people buy this extended version as it is better with must see footage. Like the Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit is an achievement in cinema and film making at its finest.

The extended version is worth buying.

For the majority of films, the extended and/or unrated versions are simply not worth the money; however, for Peter Jackson's 5 "Middle Earth" movies- it's worth it. 20 minutes may not seem like much, but the added footage and dialogue are beautifully done, as in every prior Hobbit/Lord of the Rings movie. There are plenty of added featurettes on the ITune's HD download. One of my favorites is the Legolas' RiverTown fight sequence- very interesting to see the stunts and wire works, which along with the scenes being shot on the actual set, make this MUCH better than pure CG effects. Also, you will enjoy seeing the Rivertown speeches, shot on two sets- one green screen- wherein the camera and jib are "slaved" to the primary unit... Fascinating!
The only negative for me was Peter Jackson's jab at the Tea Party, whom he clearly hates... But that's personal and doesn't really detract from the wealth of extras in this version.
The movie itself is very good, but could never equal any of the original trilogy. I'm expecting the final act, this Christmas, to be superb, and Smaug's extended version will get you hyped up too! Enjoy!

This is a cheat! Don’t buy!

The whole 9 hours of extras is a lie. You get none of that with this purchase. Trying to access the extras just makes you log in about 3 or 4 times then says they are not available.

DON’T BUY FROM ITUNES IT IS A RIPOFF!
