Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: For this is a first-rate cooking of a western recipe-not a great Western film nor a creation, but an excellent putting of heat to a fine selected blend.
Fresh: The performances are uniformly excellent...It's intelligent and has a certain grace as well.
Fresh: One of Ritt's best films, with fine performances all round, impressive Death Valley locations, and superlative camerawork from James Wong Howe.
HOMBRE "You have put a hole in me!"
This has a few really good lines in it; "Hey! Hombre! YOU have put a hole in ME!" (you got to say it with a sort of northern mexican accent) also; "Mister! You got alot a bark on you"... Good western, one of the last good ones really. Great characters. Enjoy! Thanks, Jefe Magno
5 Star Western
If you like original westerns that stay with you a few days, here it is.
Best Western Ever Overlooked
It wouldn't surprise that most folks who love westerns would not rate this as highly as other big ticket cowboys, e.g., Wayne, Eastwood, etc.
So if you like superman- lone ranger - type heroes, (without tongue and cheek, e.g., 2007 "3:10 to Yuma" which I love) this ain't for you.
On the other hand, if you want real issues and people, great dialogue; great acting. . . I'm betting this movie will outlast the other tin-star fluff .
