Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Everything looks primed for civilized amusement, but somewhere along the way the laughs dropped off, together with the question mark in the title. – Anthony Lane, New Yorker, Dec 28, 2010

Rotten: How do you know if a romantic comedy isn't working? Generally if it's neither especially romantic, nor particularly comic. And in this picture, no matter how many times he keeps coming up to bat, Brooks keeps striking out. – Stephen Whitty, Newark Star-Ledger, Dec 17, 2010

Rotten: Good news: you've got great actors with wonderful chemistry and comic timing. Bad News: they're playing some of the most irritating, unlikable, infuriating characters ever committed to film – Marc Fennell, Triple J, Mar 1, 2011

Rotten: Though neither mindless nor insensitive, this interminable movie falls far short of Brooks's best work, which is to say Broadcast News and As Good As It Gets. – Philip French, Guardian, Jan 31, 2011

What's with all the hate?

Look, I understand that this is no 'top 10 list' film, but seriously, I liked it. Okay, the acting was kind of dumb, and yes, it was pretty slow in some places, but I laughed, and I thought is was cute in its romance.
The performances were not exactly believable, but this is a romantic/comedy, come on, your supposed to laugh, not give a character study. Plus, Jack Nicholson is always a treat to watch in all his acting wisdom.
The comedy itself was great. The timing may have been off here and there, but it was still good. The post-birth seen will make you laugh, and maybe even cry.
So yeah, when it comes to romantic/comedies, I've seen better. This film is flawed in many places, but I left the theater with a smile on my face. It's a good date movie, or just a good rent. It's simply put a fun time. Thumbs up.

worst movie

some actors just get paid way tooooo much! this movie was so bad, they should refund us what we spent watching it plus damages for things we could have done instead. it was not even funny or romantic!!!!! TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!!!!

Let me be blunt too...

I don't know what kind of monkey cheese is balling up inside everybody's brain, but, this was a really good movie!

Everyone these days just seems so shallow. They only look to the surface quality of a movie and never think about looking beyond that. Sure, on the surface, this movie doesn't deserve a five star rating from a guy who happened to watch a romantic comedy.

Don't be one of those people who decide this movie is as awful as most everyone says it is, then decides to watch it and by no surprise end up agreeing with those critics who didn't like the movie. In my opinion. Just don't agree that this movie is bad, or really good. Just watch the movie with nothing in your mind predetermining your preference of the movie you haven't actually watched yet.

Just watch the movie without any preconceived bias. But it is my opinion that you give this movie a try no matter what you think about the movie you haven't seen or are unsure about. Just don't let other people shape your opinions especially before you even have a reason to have an opinion.

Simply, let my good experience give you the motivation and courage to at least give this movie a good wholesome viewing.
