Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: For a movie that probes the sensitive issue of living with reduced mental capacity, are the creators of Bambi the obvious choice? – Desson Thomson, Washington Post, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: A well-intentioned but ludicrous tale. – Rita Kempley, Washington Post, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Every device of the movie's art is designed to convince us Lucy must stay with Sam, but common sense makes it impossible to go the distance with the premise. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: It's similar to a superficially hip and irreverent, yet fundamentally sentimental, TV show. – Steven Rosen, Denver Post, Jun 24, 2010

Best Movie!

Every time I wath this movie, I seem to cry. The movie about unconditionaly love between a father and daughter has to be the best movie ever. Sean Penn and Dakota Fanning did an excellent job in this movie. I would recommend this movie to anyone who is in to the type of movies that makes you cry. Love it. My favorite movie!

The people on Rotten Tomatoes are wrong again....

I don't know how anyone can say this movie does not seem real or true. This kind of stuff happens to people everyday! People do get their children taken away because they don't have the mental capacity to take care of them. People do have agoraphobia and are afraid to leave their houses. Lawyers do generally have strained home lives because of how much they work. There is nothing unreal about this movie. The fact that it is so true to life is the part that makes it sad. I am not a person who cries at movies. Thank God I watched this one at home because I didn't stop crying for more than probably 2 minutes at a time for the entire movie. Sean Penn's performance is breathtaking. The soundtrack of Beatles covers is amazing. This movie is a must see!
