Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: The film is too busy, and in some ways too gross, to sustain an effective atmosphere of dread. It tumbles into pastiche just when it should be swooning and sighing with earnest emotion.
Fresh: Guillermo del Toro doesn't merely direct movies. He paints them, dreams them, shapes them into private fantasies. Too much? Of course. But that's part of the fun.
Fresh: The real wonder is the sumptuous production design by Thomas E. Sanders, whose darkly colorful sets were inspired by Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.
Fresh: Guillermo del Toro's latest dive into the darkness is a sumptuous, beautifully constructed tale that feels both archaic and inviting.
My favorite part was when the girl hits the sister in the head with the shovel the worst part was when they well you people know but the movie is better than the other 1 thing of horror American Horror Story.
A Weird Yet Satisfying Flick
As far as horror goes, this movie completely bombed. But, what it lacks in horror it makes up in mystery. Crimson Peak is about a young woman who gets swept off her feet by a mysterious man who comes to town. She goes through some turmoil and eventually marries the man and moves to his creepy house that he and his sister live in. There, she witnesses paranormal ghosts and discoveries some secrets about her husband and his sister. Crimson Peak is not the movie for gore fans. Fans of Clue would appreciate this murder mystery movie a lot more. All in all, Crimson Peak offers just enough to satisfy its audiences.
A must watch, it feels from another era :)
