About the Movie
Inspired by Scripture and rooted in history, The Young Messiah imagines a year in the boyhood of Jesus. When the mystery of Jesus' divinity begins to unfold in His early years, He turns to His parents for answers. But Mary and Joseph, in an effort to protect their child, are afraid to reveal all they know. How do you explain the ways of the world to its Creator? Follow the young Messiah as He and His family take the extraordinary journey from Egypt to Nazareth and on to Jerusalem – where His true identity and profound destiny are revealed.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: "The Young Messiah" performs no miracles.
Rotten: The Young Messiah struggles to hold its audience's attention.
Fresh: Perhaps realizing that enticing nonbelievers into another movie about the life of Christ may necessitate the wild-style of a director like Darren Aronofsky, the filmmakers decided to play it safe rather than risk conservative Evangelical rejection.
A Refreshingly Unique Film about Christ
I may not be a Christian, but I certainly appreciate a well-told story and a good film production, and The Young Messiah contains both. I impulsively went to the theatre to catch this upon seeing the trailer and realizing it was adapted from Ann Rice's novel, "Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt". I'm very glad I did, as I thoroughly enjoyed it and am taking family to see it while it's still playing in theatres.
Does this movie have any stories from "The Infancy Gospel of Thomas"?
I haven't seen this movie yet. I understand this movie was adapted from Ann Rice's novel "Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt" Does anyone know if her novel was adapted from the Gnostic gospel called "The Infancy Gospel of Thomas"
I say this at the very end of it's theatre showing, because I did not expect much of it. But when I saw it, I realized I had missed out on so much. The idea of a young jesus is a fairly new one, and this movie does not dissapoint. I loved the wide-eyedness of the actor for jesus, it fit his character well. The parallel story of the Roman is also a nice touch, similar to The Risen, another great film.
