About the Movie

Jon Hamm stars as Mason Skiles, a former U.S. diplomat, who gets sent to Beirut to negotiate a swap for the release of a terrorist leader, believed to be imprisoned by Israeli secret police, in exchange for a CIA agent who has been kidnapped. Confronted by ghosts from his past, Mason faces a formidable question: Who do you trust in a world where the truth emerges only when it's convenient – or profitable? From the writer of the Bourne trilogy, this taut action thriller also stars Rosamund Pike and Dean Norris and is being hailed by critics as "tense & ever-twisting" (Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times).

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Jon Hamm adds movie-star class and a world-weary Don Draper touch to this mediocre spy thriller containing plot twists you may think are reductive of the Muslim world. You're not wrong. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Apr 13, 2018

Fresh: Gilroy is a master at laying out a twisty plot, and Anderson directs with the kind of verve that enables almost all the twists to hit us with the force of surprise. – Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times, Apr 10, 2018

Fresh: The pleasure...of Beirut is watching Hamm and his associates encounter the conflicting factions at play, work out what's actually going on, and then find a way to defuse the situation, most likely by getting each involved party what it wants. – Alan Scherstuhl, Village Voice, Apr 10, 2018

Fresh: It's hardly a stretch for Hamm to play a man who's clever, disenchanted, and charismatically dissolute. But he does it as surely as he ever has, and Pike is more convincing as a Yank than she was a German in 7 Days in Entebbe. – Mark Jenkins, NPR, Apr 12, 2018

If you like a good political thriller, it’s worth a watch.

Highly entertaining well done

All the actors are great and the movie is a fast pace believable and well made. Don't listen to the negativity, its perfect for a movie at home. I would watch it two or three more times easily. Think Argo level tension and you have Beruit.

Entertaining and Interesting worth the price!

I read all of the reviews on here and the negative reviews put me off. They were so one sided I figured I would take a chance. Im very pleased with this purchase. For me this is my 600th iTunes movie. Tony Gilroy, did an amazing job with writing this film. Ive never been to Beirut, but I have spent much of my adult life overseas in high conflict areas as an Airborne Infantry Soldier and much of this film reminds me of Iraq. Either way, John Hamm really outdid himself in this film and I hope he gets noticed for his role here. Ive watched him in MadMen and later in "The Town", but to date this is his best performance. On the other side, I really dont like Rosamund Pike, but Hamms performace carried her. Im sure that many people wont like this film because of the conflict that exists in this part of the world but it doesnt make it less important. Maybe in the end, this story needed to be told for that very reason. This is a movie that I will watch often. Also, the extra conent in here is pretty weak, but the movie itself makes up for it.
