Awash with breathtaking animation, unforgettably colorful characters and two Academy Awards®* for score and song, “Under The Sea,” The Little Mermaid is one of Disney’s most cherished films. Ariel, the fun-loving and mischievous mermaid, is enchanted with all things human. Disregarding her father’s order to stay away from the world above the sea, she swims to the surface and, in a raging storm, rescues the prince of her dreams. Determined to be human, she strikes a bargain with the devious seawitch, Ursula, and trades her fins and beautiful voice for legs. With her best friend, the adorable and chatty Flounder, and her reluctant chaperone Sebastian, the hilarious, reggae-singing Caribbean crab, at her side, Ariel must win the prince’s love and save her father’s kingdom — all in a heart-pounding race against time!

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: A marvel of skillful animation, witty songwriting and smart planning.
Fresh: You could wish upon a star and not conjure up a more joyous animated movie than this graceful retelling of the Hans Christian Andersen tale.
Fresh: May represent Disney's best animated feature since the underrated Sleeping Beauty in 1959.
Fresh: The Little Mermaid -- impudent, grandiose, a multilevel crowd-pleaser -- almost returns the Disney animated features to their glory traditions of the '30s and '40s.
The greatest film of all
Once upon a time, long before a pc (or apple) in every home, long before dvd's, and even before vhs beat betamax, there was a little girl. This little girl, like most, loved everything to do with princesses, and romance, and happy endings. Then this movie came out, and she was in love. She imagined herself like Ariel, rebellious, but sweet, strong and adventurous, and hoped that one day she might meet a handsome prince too. 2 years later, she met a girl, who shared her same passion for The Little Mermaid, and the dream of that handsome prince. Both girls had the movie committed to memory (and still do) reciting parts of it at command, and holding singing contests to see who sounded the most like Ariel Ah ah aaahh, ah ah ahhh... Both had Little Mermaid t-shirts and bedsheets and ornaments long before they owned the videotape, and longerstill before they owned a VCR to play it in. (we used to rent them from the video store back in those days). Fast forward to today, several not so handsome princes, more mature dress and decor, several dvd players, and computers later, and these girls are still friends. Both still with a VCR and their worn out copies of this delightful movie. One has children, who have watched this movie and now groan everytime the girls get together and force them to watch it for the upteenth time. Now those girls get new copies, better ones, and they are ecstatic. This film is immortal, it is timeless. The struggle to find oneself, to break out from where you come from is a classic story, and this film depicts it beautifully. I'm so glad it's now on itunes. It's just too bad we can't download those handsome princes too.
As a child, this was my absolute favorite movie for so many reasons. When I watch this film I can go back in time and remember the easier times and how simple life was. Also it has some great songs and "Under the Sea" is so upbeat it makes you want to sing along, although it's tough to get the lyrics down. "Kiss the Girl" is also really a sweet song, it reminds you of High School romances. I would recommend this movie to everyone! I love it!
this is the BEST movie of all times!!!!!!!
