Plot Summary

Michael Keaton and Andie MacDowell star in director Harold Ramis' brilliant comedy about a man who clones himself to save his marriage, and then almost loses his wife to himself! Overworked and over-scheduled, contractor Doug Kinney never has enough time for his wife and family. So when a helpful geneticist offers to "xerox" Doug, it seems like the perfect solution until the clones begin to take over his home, his job, and his bed. Keaton takes on four hilariously distinct roles as the comic possibilities quickly multiply in this genuinely funny, touching romantic comedy.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Multiplicity cheats itself by not letting its imagination run as wild as its star. – Susan Wloszczyna, USA Today, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: More Kafkaesque than comedic, more fascinating to watch than out-and-out funny. – Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times, Jan 22, 2006

Rotten: Director Harold Ramis had more serious ambitions. Multiplicity should have been another Groundhog Day, which Ramis also directed, but he comes up short. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: A buoyant domestic farce. – Rita Kempley, Washington Post, Mar 7, 2001

A Classic

Michael Keaton's performances make this movie, giving each clone a life of its own. One of my all time favorite comedies! The visual effects are very well done, the scenes with multiple "Dougs" are seamless. Stands up to repeat viewings and has lots of great quotable dialogue.

Hey, Doug!

This movie is hilarious! What makes it is Number 4. He is funny. He can't get the original person's name right. He keeps calling him Doug. Other than that, it's funny to see how his clones are all so different yet they are from the same person. Worth the price.

"Two tucks and a fold" (Doug #3)

I love this movie! This is one of mine and husbands all time favorites! I love Michael Keaton and all the great memorable lines in this movie such as Doug #2 being so confident with himself, Doug #3 and his "neat & precise" ways. I love Doug #4 as he describes putting on the moves with Doug #1's wife. It is all so hillarious! I can't name all the great lines, you have to see if all for yourself! ENJOY an oldy but a goody!
