Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Bluth and his animators, bless them, chose to revive an endangered art form -- classically detailed animation. They drew their characters exquisitely and gave them individual personalities.
Fresh: It is something gorgeous to look at.
Fresh: Every character moves fluidly and imaginatively against an extravaganza of detailed background and dazzling effects, all emboldened by fascinating colored textures.
Fresh: It looks good, moves well, and delights our eyes.
Loved it as a kid, still love it
This is one of those movies that you need to NOT read the book first. It stands alone as a great movie. The book is good as well, but I find that I ruin the movie when I try and read the book and compare. Two different mediums - two different results. As a child, I thought of this as one of the more "grown up" movies I could watch. There are adult emotions and reactions being played out. Definitely a must watch.
Timeless and beautiful
This movie has a beautiful story which is much better than the children's films of today. It may not be as great as the book but try to think of one film that is better than the book that is was made from.
1 of my favs growing up and it's still enjoyable now.
