About the Movie
The rats and mice, made intellectually superior in the original Secret of N.I.M.H., return to Thorn Valley to groom their destined leader - young Timmy Brisby.
Nothing can rescue this...
The original Secret of NIMH (1982) was masterfully directed by Don Bluth who was a Disney chief animator that started his own animation studio, after creative differences with The Black Cauldron and the work Disney was turning out in the 1970's. Don Bluth is responsible for An American Tail, Land Before Time, Anastasia, the original Dragon's Lair video, and a bunch of other top notch productions. This "sequel" however, lacks his participation (he must be thankful). The only way I can describe this... this... thing, is by calling it a Tijuana knock-off. It feels like the worst fan fiction you'll ever read on the internet - in cartoon form. The animation, art, songs, and story is superbly sub-par. Gone are the wonderful painted backgrounds and lush scenery. Gone is the fabulous character animations and subtle gestures. I'm surprised that they had the voice talent for this, let alone the audacity to put this out in the public's eye. The songs and lyrics (why does everyone, even the villain, have to burst out in song??) have the effect on the human brain like shoving a blackboard in a paper shredder. I was nine when the original Secret of NIMH was shown in the theaters. I loved it. I saw they made a sequel eleven years ago and heard about how dreadful it was. I felt that a 99 cent rental was worth the horror show - it wasn't. If you loved Secret of NIMH, do yourself a favor - never watch this. If anything, read the books the movie was based on. They're different beasts in and of themselves, but at least they better than this tripe.
Do not bother
If you were a fan of the original, then you will not enjoy this travesty at all.
may not be the first one...
but it's still pretty cute and entertaining
