About the Movie

A major surprise as one of 1976's top grossing films. The Bad News Bears is a movie about children that is refreshing, utterly believable, and quite cleverly funny. Walter Matthau is at his absolute best as the grumbling beer-guzzling former minor-league pitcher who gets roped into coaching a band of half-pint misfits somewhat loosely called a team. With this bunch in uniform, it's impossible to get caught up in the suburban competitive spirit that drives other adults to extremes of parental discipline. So, instead, the Bears have a good time.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: [Ritchie] keeps the sentimentality in check most of the time and obtains first-rate performers from his miniature cast all of the time. – Vincent Canby, New York Times, May 6, 2014

Fresh: Surprisingly, improbably, The Bad News Bears is the year's funniest movie. – Jay Cocks, TIME Magazine, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: An extremely funny adult-child comedy film. – Variety Staff, Variety, Mar 18, 2013

Fresh: [Ritchie] directs scenes for comedy even in the face of his disturbing material and that makes the movie all the more effective; sometimes we laugh, and sometimes we can't, and the movie's working best when we're silent. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010

FINALLY!!!!!

Nice! NOT the remake, NOT the third & crappy installment in Japan, but the ORIGINAL! (And aren't those ALWAYS the best?) Trust me, Walter Matthau + booze + "coaching" kids = pure American comedy! Good job itunes, a true classic from my childhood indeed. If you've never seen any of the "Bad News Bears" films, this is the one to see- promise. Now my only question is, where's "Bad News Bears: Breaking Training"? Ah well, you surprised me with this one, hopefully more surprises around the corner.

good movie

it was a good movie much better than the 1 in japan. which was horrible. but of course every original is better than the remakes(most of the time)

politically incorrect

Perhaps the most politically incorrect movie I have ever seen. I loved it. They redid a scene for an ESPN commercial a couple of years ago. It was great! Baseball season is getting ready to start, do yourself a favor watch this movie (it is 10 times better than the re-make) and get into the baseball spirit again!
