About the Movie
From the producers of the blockbuster films "Independence Day" and "Godzilla"! The residents of a rural mining town discover that an unfortunate chemical spill has caused hundreds of little spiders to mutate overnight to the size of SUVs! It's up to mining engineer Chris McCormack (David Arquette -- "See Spot Run," "3000 Miles to Graceland") and Sheriff Sam Parker (Kari Wuhrer -- TV's "General Hospital," TV's "Sliders") to mobilize an eclectic group of townspeople into battle against the bloodthirsty eight-legged beasts. With state-of-the-art visual effects, "Eight Legged Freaks" updates such inspired genre classics as "Them!" and "Black Scorpion" into a terrifyingly fun experience. Also Starring Golden Globe-nominee Scarlett Johansson ("Match Point," "In Good Company") and Doug E. Doug ("Shark Tale," "Cool Runnings").

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Like many of the worst pop-referential parodies of the post-Scream era, this one stalls on laughs once the big joke has been established.
Rotten: Neither as scary-funny as Tremors nor demented-funny as Starship Troopers, the movie isn't tough to take as long as you've paid a matinee price.
Fresh: Originality ain't on the menu, but there's never a dull moment in the giant spider invasion comic chiller.
Fresh: Because Eight Legged Freaks is partly an homage to Them, Tarantula and other low- budget B-movie thrillers of the 1950s and '60s, the movie is a silly (but not sophomoric) romp through horror and hellish conditions.
A classic for tfans of '50's bug movies.
An absolute classic in my opinion. The acting, while not perfect, gets the point across. The effects, for 2002, are absolutely astounding; the best giant spider effects I've ever seen. While it may not be for everyone, as stated before, if you are a fan of the bug movies of the 1950's-such as Them! or The Black Scorpion-then Eight Legged Freaks is a wonderful throwback that shouldn't be missed.
