About the Movie
High-schooler Richard Samuels lucks into a role in a daring Broadway production of Julius Caesar. Cues, staging, rehearsals, romance, rivalries: he has a lot to learn. And the first thing to learn is never upstage Mercury Theatre's genius director, 22-year-old Orson Welles. Zac Efron wins hearts and applause as Richard, the Me of this celebratory curtain call for when dreams - and the theater - were big. Christian McKay offers an uncanny Welles, the imposing, impetuous center of Richard's exciting new universe. Claire Danes is the enterprising stage assistant drawn into both men's lives. And Richard Linklater (Before Sunset, The School of Rock) directs with the vibrant spirit of those for whom all the world is a stage. Bravo!

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Christian McKay's impersonation of young Orson Welles is sensational in this enjoyable, though slight, historical fiction about a teen who spends a memorable week with the legendary wonder.
Fresh: It's an open question as to who, outside theater geeks, will find this inside-baseball approach quite as fascinating as Linklater apparently does.
Fresh: A thoroughly enjoyable film that wraps a coming-of-age story around the portrait of a genius.
VALENTINE TO BEING YOUNG
A love letter to youth and art and ambition and love. Exuberant and warm-spirited.
I found this film to be an great look to what theatre can be. It's a magnificent work of art that should be viewed by all who possess a love for theatre and the arts.
Wow. Start of a great career!
When I first heard that Zac Efron was doing a movie like this, I was nervous to see it. When it ended, I was thoroughly satisfied. He has some great acting chops; so much different than his High School Musical days and that 17 again movie. Serious, great story, and great story of a theatre great.
