About the Movie

Academy Award-winner Adrien Brody ("King Kong," "The Pianist") stars as Jack Starks, a veteran of the first Gulf War who, once home, finds himself in an asylum with no memory of the crime he allegedly committed that put him there. The experimental treatment he is forced to undergo to regain his memory takes him instead on strange, fragmented journeys into his past and, incredibly, his future. And it is in his own future that he finally finds some solace from the asylum, when he meets and falls in love with Jackie, a young woman who seems to have a special connection to his past. With the help of a trusting female doctor who believes Starks is innocent, and Jackie's love, Starks struggles to piece together the mysteries of his shattered past in a desperate attempt to save all of their futures.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Pic begins as a potentially intriguing study of the depersonalizing effects of warfare, only to end up a pastiche of time-travel and psycho-ward movie cliches. – Scott Foundas, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Even the viewer who finds the premise too far-fetched to accept may nonetheless come away impressed with the ambitiousness of the attempt and even be moved by the emotional effect of the film's well-staged concluding sequence. – Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times, Sep 20, 2007

Fresh: I enjoyed the electroshock ambience, and accepted the ride as a jumped-up sci-fi mystery. – Jami Bernard, New York Daily News, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: The characters in the tepid sci-fi thriller The Jacket, starring Adrien Brody and Keira Knightley, are so flat and the dialogue so dull you expect it to be one of those movies whose existence is justified by a big final twist. – Kyle Smith, New York Post, Jun 24, 2010

this movie was awesomeeee i love adrien brody and keira they are such great acyors (especially adrien)
the plot was good and i loved the ending!!! great movie

4 stars!

This is a great movie. Confusing at first but after watching it a few more times I've decided I love it. The thought of being shoved into a straight jacket and slid into a dark body drawer freaks me the f out. This has to be one of the trippiest movie I've ever seen. Has Great ending too!

Unique, challenging, first class story-telling

If you are looking for an adrenaline rush, look elsewhere. If you are looking for an original concept that gradually reveals itself through outstanding acting and direction, then this movie may become one of your favorites. Casting is one of its strongest ingredients. Brody makes you care about his character from the first frame, and involves you emotionally in the shocking events that befall him. Knightly's performance does the same, and the interplay between the two characters effectively carries the plot. Supporting performances by Kristofferson, Jennifer Jason Leigh and the rest of the cast are uniformly excellent. Plan on not understanding the ending on the first pass. It requires careful analysis, which is great because it keeps you thinking about the movie for hours afterwards, and appreciating its subtlety for days after that.
