After years of incarceration, Irish immigrant Amsterdam Vallon (DiCaprio) returns to lower Manhattan's lawless, corrupt Five Points section seeking revenge against the rival gang leader (Day-Lewis) who killed his father. But before long, Amsterdam's personal vendetta becomes part of an erupting wave of fullblown gang warfare. Feel your heart pound while weapons and cultures clash in a chaotic symphony of life and death. Surrender to the tumultuous atmosphere of 1860s New York as phenomenal sound and stunning visual clarity transport you back in time.

Fresh: A triumph of pure craft and passionate heart.
Fresh: Scorsese's congested, conflicted, entrancing achievement.
Fresh: For all its lack of breathing room ... it realistically puts you into the Civil War North as much as Gone With the Wind does with the romantically idealized South.
Rotten: You have to honor its mad ambition. But sadly, it feels like a dream too long deferred.
great movie but i feel bad for leo in it
day lewis was soo freggin good in this but he did kind of out shine everyone else in the pic especially dicaprio but he was good too..... great movie
Blood In The Streets
Great film! Many of the characters are real but their relationships and years alive were altered to be meat for the movie. Still you can tell that Daniel Day-Lewis is an enormously gifted actor, DiCaprio can't successfully fake an Irish accent, and Cameron Diaz should stick to naive, blonde roles. That being said I still love the film because it has an incredible plot and gives an intentional shove toward reality. It can help someone not rationalize, but comprehend dispute in the era of which the film
is based. Wonderfully shot. Any true Scorsese fan owns this. ENJOY!
A brutal, effective film. But why the heck was Cameron Diaz cast as a pretty Irish pickpocket? She's not even Irish-looking! The lovely red-headed actress Alicia Witt would have given the romantic scenes much more credibility.
