About the Movie
One of the most critically acclaimed and highly awarded films of the year, THE PIANO arouses erotic passions and vengeful jealousies when Ada, a young mute woman (Holly Hunter), is desired by two men- her husband by an arranged marriage (Sam Neill) and the husband's darkly intense neighbor (Harvey Keitel). Violent emotions erupt, but only one man understands that Ada's heart can only be won through her beloved piano.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Ms. Campion somehow suggests states of mind you've never before recognized on the screen.
Fresh: [An] evocative, powerful, extraordinarily beautiful film from the Australian director Jane Campion.
Fresh: The Piano plays itself with such contrapuntal richness, it resonates in you forever.
Fresh: The Piano is as peculiar and haunting as any film I've seen.
OK, the director is Jane Campion, not Jane Champion. And Anna Paquin should be listed under actors in the film since she did win an Oscar for the role.
Where are the subtitles?!
Don't get me wrong, I love this movie. But whoever did the remaster is a moron because they left out a massive key element: The subtitles! Leaving out the subtitles, which explains Ada's sign language and the dialogue between the Maoris, is a major injustice to this masterpiece, and also scrubs out a good portion of particularly important plot devices! Great movie, lazy remaster. Get your stuff together iTunes! I'd give it a 5 star rating if it weren't for such negligence. I'd only recommend it if you've already seen it. If you haven't, find the version that has subtitles first otherwise you're missing out on something big.
This movie was really well done and I loved the atmosphere and the actors in this movie. But it's not something I would buy, renting this movie and watching it once was enough for me and you'll get all you need to out of this movie after just one watch. But it was a really nice romance with some weird moments.
