Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Blessed with considerable virtues, including a clever concept, crackling filmmaking and a charismatic star, it ultimately squanders all of them, undone by an unfortunate lack of subtlety and restraint.
Fresh: An entertainingly nutty action thriller from the director Joe Wright.
Fresh: This cool, calculated who's-hunting-who piece brings home all the requisite tension, gunplay and fighting with a great deal of cinematic style.
Fresh: The entire thing - the whole weight of the movie - rests on the remarkable abilities of Saoirse Ronan ... she's an exceptional actor. She's one of a kind.
SO MUCH WIN ON SO MANY LEVELS!
Never in a million years did I ever picture Joe Wright, the acclaimed director of "Atonement" and "Pride and Prejudice", directing a fast-paced, action-packed adventure filled with mystery, intrigue, and suspense. But boy did he prove me wrong with "Hanna", which successfully accomplished all that and much more! The film follows the titular character (Saoirse Ronan), a 17-year-old girl who's been trained since birth to be an assassin by her father and rogue CIA asset Erik (Eric Bana) in the harsh wilderness of Finland. But when Hanna yearns to see what lies beyond her sheltered home, Erik gives her the option to flip the switch of a red transmitter that, when activated, will alert her very presence to the outside world. From that point on, our heroine escapes a prison compound, travels across African and European terrain, and hitchhikes with an unassuming British family on holiday, all in the effort to hunt down and kill Marissa Wiegler (Cate Blanchett), a villainous CIA agent who'll stop at nothing to capture the girl herself. "Hanna" is truly one of the most unique, thrilling, and intense movies of the year thanks to a superb cast of actors, breathtaking cinematography, a mind-blowing score by the one-and-only Chemical Brothers, and a bunch of heart-pounding action sequences that'll leave you in awe. So if you're the kind of moviegoer who loves mystery-fueled adrenaline with a twist, this is the film for you!
Joe Wright messes up a good concept
Perfect actors, the beginning of a good story, but horribly paced and the director spends time on things the audience doesn't care about. It's frustrating. I had to fast forward to get back on pace several times. Silly 1960s ending. In fact, the whole movie reminded me of an unsatisfying self-important 60s movie.
Pretty visually... but not so great plot
This is a "one time see movie"... its not as bad to the point I wouls suggest never watching it... but don't expect an AMAZING movie... when the movie was over I was left with a "this is it???" feeling, it just had all the ingredients to be a really good movie but got lost somewhere in the the middle of the movie and got stuck in this whats going to happen next??? but nothing really happens... i dunno I felt dissapointed... the ending just sucked for me
