Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: A keenly observed period piece that keeps a celebrity journalist's distance from its subject.
Rotten: A curiously uninvolving affair.
Rotten: Coogan's portrayal is heartfelt, but The Look of Love rarely exploits its star's comedic dexterity.
Fresh: Compelling entertainment, as any biopic about Paul Raymond ought to be.
Not a bad movie, was very entreating and almost helps you realize how fast greed can take away everything and everybody out of your life.
Pointless and Depresing
First let me say that the lead, Mr. Coogan, did an excellent job as an actor and that the movie does not fail because of him. In fact, he might be the only thing interesting about it.
If you having too good a day, and need something to help pull you down in the dumps, watch this awful movie. It fails to say anything worth saying or anything that has not already been said, over and over.
Drugs are bad, m'kay.
I have been a big Coogan fan, 24 hour party people, The Trip were excellent!. Winterbottom misses the mark here. This film is basically weak. Coogan is boring, meaning not funny, because the production, ..and script, are both wrong for him. Coogan needs a bit of space and time to do his thing. This film is cluttered, sound and art direction do not enhance the story and certainly work counter to Coogans acting in this production. OK -24 hour party people was crowded literally, however the camera work was sharper and more focused in moments of important dialogue, and the voice overs had a clarifying effect as well. The film has serious trouble on other levels to. Too bad I paid 7$ dollars and wasted 1hr 40 mins. of my evening. I couldn't finish it.
